Washington Area Women’s Foundation Names New Board Chair and Officers
Rosie Allen-Herring of United Way of the National Capital Area to Lead Board; Graham Holdings’ Pinkie Mayfield as Board Secretary and Rockefeller & Co’s Karen Wawrzaszek as Board Treasurer
July 19, 2017 – Rosie Allen-Herring has been named the chair of the board of Washington Area Women’s Foundation, the only donor-supported, public foundation solely dedicated to building economic security for women and girls in the Washington D.C. metro area. Allen-Herring is the President and CEO of United Way of the National Capital Area, a Washington based nonprofit organization that collaborates with effective partners to serve as the catalyst for change in our region. She has demonstrated her commitment to The Women’s Foundation, serving as a board member since 2013. She will start her term immediately.
Prior to becoming President and CEO of United Way of the National Capital Area, Allen-Herring was the Managing Director of the Community Investment and Engagement Division at Fannie Mae. She has more than 25 years of experience in strategic leadership, corporate philanthropy and community investment. “It is an honor to help lead an organization that upholds a mission that I am passionate about and believe in,” Rosie Allen-Herring said. “We will continue making lasting impact and change for women and girls in the Washington region.”
The Women’s Foundation also named Pinkie Mayfield, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Special Assistant to the Chairman, Graham Holdings as board secretary. Graham Holdings is a primarily a diversified education and media company based in Arlington, VA. Mayfield is a seasoned finance executive with extensive experience in management, public relations, communications, and corporate affairs. She has served on the board since 2015.
Karen Wawrzaszek, Managing Director, Rockefeller & Co. has been named board treasurer. Rockefeller & Co. is a global asset management and investment advisory firm. Wawrzaszek is a senior wealth advisor and national resource for impact investing and complex financial planning. She has served on the board since 2014.
